Bringing new love to the preloved, one unique find at a time.
It’s a trend we’ve all seen coming for a while. Thrifting is back. Big Time. Yet for Emily Lanchak, bringing a little bit of new love to pieces that have been “preloved” has always been a part of her journey.
“My mom, Rae, loved it too. She had this ability to always make a house a home, but on a budget, by using the pieces she would find” said Lanchak.
Inspired in part by the memory of her late mother, Rae’s Nook is an online thrift store. Primarily serving local buyers at the moment, Lanchak started the business just this past June, but the energy and feedback the store has received since has been amazing! “As a kid, I was constantly rearranging and redoing my room. And as an adult, I’m always changing my old 1840s farmhouse. And to do that takes a lot of thrifting, marketplace hunting, and garage sales.” said Lanchak.
With a passion for unique finds, a gift for selling, all Lanchak really needed was a little bit of additional inspiration. An element she would obtain while on her most recent trip, a 3-month stint in England, dually discovering her English roots, while also volunteering at the Leicester Samaritans, a local emotional support helpline. During her time there she specifically focused on revamping the organization’s charity thrift shop that helped fund the organization. “The director there really gave me free rein creatively. With my background in art and my penchant for flair, we were able to reinvent the store in a way and boost the overall experience at and sales of the establishment!” said Lanchak. With this experience in her pocket, Lanchak returned to the states and soon after opened Rae’s Nook.
Currently, an online-only thrift store, Rae’s Nook focuses on vintage, modern, and antique home decor. You may also see some plants, jewelry, and art pieces on there from time to time as well. Lanchak personally shops for the pieces in all local spaces, whether that be at a weekend garage sale down the street or having friends send her pieces of artwork to share. Lanchak also offers to hand deliver the pieces she sells to those locally in Upstate NY and between these two aspects, Lanchak says that “the whole networking of it all has really become one of my favorite parts. You get to meet so many cool people in the community and learn their stories along the way!”
For those interested in picking up a new, well make that new to you, piece of decor for your home, Rae’s Nook can be found on their online site or contacted via direct message on their Instagram account.
