Shelters of Saratoga Announces the Opening of Nine New Supportive Housing Units

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY —Shelters of Saratoga is pleased to announce the opening of nine new supportive housing units on Ballston Avenue in Saratoga Springs. These affordable apartments are more than just housing—they represent a critical step toward stability, wellness, and hope for individuals who have experienced long-term homelessness and are navigating chronic health conditions.
Utilizing the Housing First model, the program focuses on providing stable housing as the foundation for long-term health stabilization and personal growth. This evidence-based approach prioritizes housing as a key element for addressing homelessness, with a focus on person-centered care. While participation in case management services is voluntary, these services—ranging from resource navigation to health service coordination—are available to support residents in achieving their goals at their own pace.
Allison, one of Shelters of Saratoga’s case managers, highlights the holistic nature of the program:
“Not only does our program subsidize rent, making it affordable for those with limited resources, but it also promotes long-term stabilization by addressing chronic conditions and fosters community building in a welcoming environment. Positive social connections are essential for growth and housing stability, particularly for individuals who have experienced chronic homelessness.”
At the core of this initiative is the dedicated case management team, which provides residents with the support they need to succeed. Case Manager Mahadhi emphasizes the team’s role in empowering residents:
“I’m truly excited about the opportunity to come alongside the journey of these residents. We have some genuinely smart, talented, and loving individuals who just need support on their road to success. Our residents often know where they want to go, but may not always know how to get there. Our team offers guidance, assistance, and accountability to help them meet their goals.”
The program’s impact extends beyond individual residents, aiming to strengthen the entire Saratoga community. As Allison points out:
“The Saratoga region has visible gaps in affordable housing, and supportive housing programs like this one have been proven to reduce homelessness recidivism and diminish the stigma associated with homelessness. This program represents a turning point in how our community understands health and housing.”
Duane Vaughn, executive director, calls for continued community support for the initiative:
“We urge our neighbors to support the development of programs like this, as they create vital assets for our community. You’re helping to guide individuals away from hardship and into productive, stable lives, contributing to the strength of society as a whole.”
The Ballston Ave Supportive Housing program is made possible with grant funding from the New York State Office of Temporary Disability Assistance Program (OTDA), Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative (ESSHI), Federal Home Loan Bank of New York, Broadview Federal Credit Union, and Arrow Bank.
