If You Like to Read, Cornell Cooperative Extension Needs You for Agriculture Literacy Week
SARATOGA COUNTY, NY — Saratoga County 4-H is calling on community members to help inspire the next generation of agriculturists during Agricultural Literacy Week, taking place March 17-21, 2025. Volunteers are invited to visit local second-grade classrooms to read The Pie That Molly Grew by Sue Heavenrich—a delightful story that follows the journey of a pumpkin from seed to pie, teaching children about the food-growing process.
Agricultural Literacy Week is designed to connect students with the origins of their food and highlight the vital role of agriculture in everyday life. This year’s featured book introduces young learners to the importance of farming, patience, and the joy of harvesting homegrown food.
Each volunteer session will last approximately 30 minutes and will include reading the book and leading a fun, hands-on activity to reinforce the lesson. No prior agricultural experience is necessary—just a passion for learning, community engagement, and sharing the story of how food grows!
