Adirondack Folk School Celebrates Blacksmith Forge Expansion with Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

Lake Luzerne, NY — The Adirondack Folk School (AFS) invites the community to celebrate the grand opening of its newly expanded and winterized blacksmithing facility with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, May 14 at 1:30 p.m. at 51 Main Street, Lake Luzerne, NY.
The ribbon cutting, hosted in partnership with the Lake George Regional Chamber of Commerce & CVB, marks the completion of a major capital improvement that will allow the school to host blacksmithing classes, open forge nights, and studio access year-round.
Remarks will be shared by Adirondack Folk School Executive Director Terri Cerveny, Town of Lake Luzerne Supervisor Gene Merlino, Chamber Executive Director Gina Mintzer, New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) Program Director Katie Steger, and AFS Board President Tanya Tobias-Tomis. Steve Gurzler, AFS blacksmithing instructor and board member, will lead the official ribbon cutting.
Guests can enjoy live blacksmithing and stone carving demonstrations, tours of the facility, and light refreshments. A raffle drawing for a free blacksmithing class will also be held during the event.
“The Adirondack Folk School’s blacksmithing program is known nationally as one of the best in the country and it’s one of our most popular programs,” said Cerveny. “To meet growing demand, we knew we needed to winterize and expand our current blacksmith shop. Thanks to the support of the New York State Council on the Arts, generous donors, and the community, we’re excited to open this new space to more students, more often.”
Parking is available onsite and along nearby streets.
Looking ahead, the school is also preparing for its AFS Summer Festival on Saturday, July 26, beginning with a Wee Lassie Canoe regatta on Lake Luzerne at 9 a.m. and continuing with artisan demos, kids’ crafts, food trucks, four live bands, and a dash of magic at the school.
