2nd Annual Next Generation Festival Returns to Troy on March 22

Emerging classical musicians from local and regional colleges and universities to debut at renowned venue, with music curated live on stage by Classical WMHT-FM radio hosts. Tickets available now.
Troy, NY – WMHT Public Media and Troy Savings Bank Music Hall return for a second year of The Next Generation Festival, to be held Sunday, March 22 at 3pm.
WMHT-FM hosts Rob Brown, Charlotte Wilson, and Mary Darcy will take the stage to present this live concert event featuring students from colleges and universities throughout the Northeast as they make their debuts at the renowned venue.
“Think of it as a classical battle of the bands,” said Rob Brown, music director and afternoon host at Classical WMHT-FM. “When the next generation takes the stage in a music hall recognized as having some of the greatest acoustics in the world, good things will happen. We’re especially delighted to feature these talented musicians from our own region. Plus, to give audience members a chance to see how a tv production comes together. Last year was so much fun, we’re hoping for even more this year.”
Participating ensembles include:
- SUNY Schenectady
- University at Albany
- University of Massachusetts Amherst
- Queens College CUNY
- SUNY New Paltz
- Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
“Music history is the story of premieres: Beethoven’s concerto debut in Vienna, Rhapsody in Blue, The Rite of Spring,” said Scott Sauer, president of the board of directors of Troy Savings Bank Music Hall. “Nowhere is it more exciting than when the next generation takes the stage. We’re thrilled to partner with WMHT for the second year of this inspiring presentation.”
With support from Fenimore Asset Management and John Keal Music, Next Generation Festival will also be recorded for future broadcast on both Classical WMHT-FM and WMHT-TV.
