Bringing Agriculture Literacy Week to Life with Effie “The Fair Cow”

This year at the Saratoga County Fair, July 23rd – 28th, we will be bringing the 2024 Agriculture Literacy book Fair Cow by Leslie Helakoski to life with “Effie the Fair Cow”.
Throughout Agriculture Literacy Week, March 18th – 22nd, volunteers went to schools throughout Saratoga County to read Fair Cow to elementary students. Agriculture Literacy Week is a way to celebrate and educate students on agriculture throughout New York state. The three pillars of Saratoga County’s agriculture community, Cornell Cooperative Extension, Farm Bureau, and Saratoga County Agricultural Society (Saratoga County Fair) partnered together for this opportunity. Saratoga County Cornell Cooperative Extension has organized this event, Farm Bureau donated the Fair Cow books, and the Saratoga County Fair providing a place to bring the book to life with “Effie the Fair Cow”.
During the Saratoga County Fair, attendees will be able to meet our very own “Effie the Fair Cow” who will be in the Dairy Barn all week. Along with this, there will be select times throughout the fair when there will be readings of Fair Cow in the Stewarts Show Ring and kids crafts. The fair is a great opportunity for the public to connect with Saratoga County’s agriculture and learn more about all that it has to offer. This experience is an addition to all the other amazing things that the fair provides. When you are at the fair you are never far from fun!
