4-H Shooting Sports Banquet Announces 2025 Artist of the Year: Kathy Hanehan

Glens Falls, NY – The 4-H Shooting Sports Banquet Committee is proud to announce that Kathy Hanehan has been selected as the 2025 Artist of the Year. As part of this recognition, one of her original paintings will be featured in the annual auction at the 24th Annual New York State 4-H Shooting Sports Banquet and Auction, set to take place on April 12, 2025, at the historic Queensbury Hotel in Glens Falls, NY.

Every year, the 4-H Shooting Sports Banquet committee selects an artist of the year to feature their work. This year our artist is Kathy Hanehan. We are fortunate to have received one of her paintings for our auction at the banquet. The banquet will take place on April 12 at the historic Queensbury Hotel in Glens Falls. Attached is an image of the painting that we will have available at auction.

Growing up in Greenwich and now residing in Stillwater, Kathy Hanehan has built a life rich in community ties and family values alongside her husband, Clifford Hanehan. Together, they are proud parents to three wonderful daughters—Mckenzie, Samantha, and Katie—and grandparents to eleven delightful grandchildren. Her passion for art has been a lifelong journey, beginning in high school and continuing through various adult classes, allowing her to express her creativity and share it with others.

As she lives and works on the family dairy, she finds joy not only in her profession but also in her avid pursuit of deer hunting, where she has had the thrill of taking trophies across multiple states. Her commitment to youth development shines through her extensive volunteer work, particularly with organizations focused on empowering young people, such as coaching 4-H dairy bowl teams and serving as a 4-H leader for an impressive 26 years. Currently, she has the honor of being a member of the Saratoga County Fair board, where she serves as the cattle barn superintendent and helps organize the National Deer Association booth, further illustrating her dedication to enhancing local culture and community engagement. She encourages everyone to embrace the spirit of volunteerism and leadership, as our collective efforts not only enrich our lives but also strengthen the vibrant tapestry of our community.

About the 4-H Shooting Sports Program

The 4-H Shooting Sports Program is New York’s largest multi-disciplinary shooting program. In 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic, over 42,000 youth participated in ongoing activities. As of 2023, participation has rebounded to over 25,000 youth across New York State. The program remains strong in Saratoga, Warren, and Washington Counties, offering youth hands-on opportunities to learn firearm safety, hunting traditions, and shooting sports skills.

Unlike other programs, 4-H Shooting Sports is self-funded, with little to no state or county financial support. The program provides low-cost participation, as all necessary equipment and supplies are covered, and instructors receive extensive training to ensure a safe and educational experience for youth. More adult volunteers and youth participants are always welcome to join this impactful initiative.
