Capital District 4-H Announces Tractor Safety Program

Capital District 4-H is pleased to announce the HOSTA Tractor Safety Program, taking place April 6–9, 2026, with a required virtual orientation meeting on March 12, 2026. The program is open to youth ages 14 and older who are interested in learning safe agricultural work practices and exploring career opportunities within the agriculture industry.

The HOSTA (Hazardous Occupations Safety Training in Agriculture) program provides participants with hands-on training in the operation of tractors and implements, along with essential safety instruction related to agricultural machinery and equipment, livestock handling, grain storage, and other critical farm safety topics. Youth will also have the opportunity to visit local farms and agribusinesses, offering firsthand exposure to the wide range of careers available in modern agriculture.

Upon successful completion of the program, participants will earn their HOSTA certification—a nationally recognized credential that demonstrates work readiness and can help youth qualify for employment in agricultural settings where safety training is required.

This program is offered through Cornell Cooperative Extension. Interested individuals are encouraged to contact their county Cornell Cooperative Extension office for more information.
