Saratoga’s Revolutionary History Comes to Life in Victory Season

For Saratoga 250, Revolutionary history is not confined to textbooks or a single day on the calendar, but is about educating and engaging visitors through immersive live events and 21st century media that preserves its heritage for another generation.
Saratoga 250 is helping build a broader “Victory Season at Saratoga” around September and October, when the Battles of Saratoga unfolded in 1777, with living history events, educational experiences, and new ways for families to connect with the places where history happened.
Saratoga’s Victory Season Brings 1777 to Life
Campaign for Saratoga 250, Inc.’s Executive Director, Bill Teator, described Victory Season as a way to connect Saratoga’s destination appeal with the historic events that helped put the region on the map. The season focuses on the September 19th and October 7th battles of Saratoga, culminating in the remarkable October 17th, 1777 surrender of British forces.
One of its signature Victory Season events is Siege Weekend, taking place October 10th and 11th, 2026, at Fort Hardy Park in Schuylerville, NY. Teator said the event offers visitors a chance to “immerse yourself back into 1777 18th-century living,” with American and British encampments, living historians, period food preparation, medicine, music, and live artillery fire demonstrations. Families can also participate in musket drills, take horse-and-wagon rides with large draft horses, and enjoy free Stewart’s Shops ice cream.
The experience is designed for multiple generations. Teator specifically highlighted its appeal to grandparents, parents, and children, as well as homeschool, public-school, and private-school communities. Past school groups have connected the experience to U.S. history and social studies curriculum, while Teator emphasized that “this will be fun. Learning can be fun and edutaining.”
From Living History to a New Saratoga Experience
The event goes beyond military encampments. Teator discussed 18th-century toys and games, British camp followers, women and children living within the encampments, and interpreters representing different perspectives from the Revolutionary era.
That emphasis on perspective is part of a larger effort to educate visitors about the human experience surrounding the Revolution. Teator said the goal is to bring forward the stories of “rank and file militia responders or camp followers with the British and the German forces” as well as Native and Indigenous tribes.
A new Saratoga Revolutionary Experience Center adjoining Fort Hardy Park is also beginning to take shape. Teator said a new digital wall will provide a chronological view of American and British troop movements from September 19th through October 17th, 1777, helping visitors understand that the Battles of Saratoga were not simply one isolated event, but involved weeks of strategic movements, advances and retreats.
Building Toward Saratoga’s 250th Anniversary
The work is also looking beyond 2026. Teator discussed the 250th anniversary reenactments planned for October 9th and 10th, 2027, which he expects to involve thousands of reenactors. A 2026 digital Siege Passport will give visitors an interactive way to visit interpreters and complete stops around the October 10th and 11th, 2026 event, with participants receiving early access opportunities to secure limited tickets to the milestone 250th reenactments occurring in October 2027.
For Teator, the larger goal is to turn digital content and events into a reason to visit Saratoga County’s historic sites in person. “We want people to put their feet in those places,” he said, describing the Saratoga Revolutionary Experience as an ongoing heritage destination effort rather than something that ends with the 250th anniversary.
As Victory Season continues through the fall, Teator encouraged residents and visitors to make a full outing of the experience by exploring the historic sites, local attractions, and businesses throughout the region.
