Saratoga County 4-H Hosted Hands-On Foal Necropsy for Capital Region Youth

BALLSTON SPA, NEW YORK — On Monday, Saratoga County 4-H hosted a unique and impactful educational event, welcoming over 70 youth from across the Capital Region to participate in a hands-on Foal Necropsy experience. Held at the Saratoga County 4-H Training Center, the program offered aspiring veterinary science students an extraordinary opportunity to explore equine anatomy and reproduction in a real-world learning environment.
Designed for youth with an interest in animal science and veterinary medicine, the event featured a live necropsy demonstration led by experienced professionals. Participants were guided through the complex systems of foal anatomy, with a strong emphasis on the physiological aspects of equine reproduction and health.
“This was a rare and invaluable experience for our 4-H members,” said Kailey Kuhn, 4-H Livestock Educator. “The chance to engage with veterinary science in such a hands-on way is something that will stick with them and help shape their future educational paths.”
Youth from Saratoga and surrounding counties came together to learn, ask questions, and collaborate with peers who share similar interests. The event not only enhanced scientific understanding but also fostered connections between 4-H members from multiple communities, reinforcing the organization’s mission of learning by doing.
