Lake George Chamber Honors Sheriff Jim LaFarr, Revolution Rail Co., and Community Leader Gene Merlino at Annual Dinner

QUEENSBURY, NY — The Lake George Regional Chamber of Commerce & CVB celebrated exceptional leadership, tourism innovation, and decades of community service during its Annual Dinner on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at the Northwest Bay Conference Center at SUNY Adirondack. The event—also attended by SUNY Adirondack’s new President, Anastasia Urtz—brought together members, partners, elected officials, and community leaders to recognize individuals and organizations making a meaningful impact on the Lake George area.

This year’s top honors were presented to Warren County Sheriff Jim LaFarr, recipient of the Sapphire Award, and Revolution Rail Co., winner of the 2025 S.T.A.R. Award for “Supporting Tourism Around the Region.” The Chamber also proudly recognized Gene Merlino upon his retirement, honoring four decades of hospitality leadership and nearly 20 years of public service.

Sheriff Jim LaFarr Presented with the Sapphire Award

The Chamber’s Board of Directors awarded the 2025 Sapphire Award to Sheriff Jim LaFarr, honoring him as a true “gem” in the Lake George community. The Sapphire Award—established in 2017 during the Chamber’s 65th Sapphire Anniversary Gala—celebrates individuals whose leadership and service strengthen the region’s economic vitality and overall quality of life.

Sheriff LaFarr has devoted his career to protecting residents and visitors across Warren County. His collaborative approach to public safety, community policing, emergency response, and regional partnerships has helped ensure that Warren County remains a safe, welcoming destination year-round. The Chamber commended Sheriff LaFarr for his integrity, steady leadership, and unwavering commitment to the well-being of the community.

Revolution Rail Co. Receives the 2025 S.T.A.R. Award

The 2025 S.T.A.R. Award, which recognizes those “Supporting Tourism Around the Region,” was presented to Revolution Rail Co., a company whose innovative rail-biking experiences have become a major draw for travelers seeking outdoor adventure in the Adirondacks. Revolution Rail’s scenic tours introduce thousands of visitors to the region’s natural beauty while driving economic activity across lodging, dining, attractions, and downtown businesses. Their operations extend visitation into the shoulder seasons and bring new audiences to communities throughout Warren County. The Chamber highlighted Revolution Rail’s creativity, customer experience, and meaningful contributions to the region’s tourism ecosystem.

Chamber Honors Gene Merlino for a Lifetime of Service

The Chamber also recognized Gene Merlino for his remarkable contributions to local tourism, hospitality, and public service. For more than four decades, Gene and his wife, Linda, have embodied the spirit of hospitality in Lake Luzerne. In 1984, they transformed an 1890s Victorian home into the beloved Lamplight Inn, welcoming generations of guests who returned year after year.

Beyond the inn, Gene served nearly 20 years in public office—as Town Supervisor of Lake Luzerne and as longtime Chairman of the Warren County Tourism Committee. His leadership and advocacy have strengthened the region’s tourism economy, supported small businesses, and advanced collaborative initiatives that benefit the entire Lake George Area. The Chamber proudly thanks and honors Gene Merlino for his outstanding service, dedication, and lasting impact on the community.
