Saratoga’s Revolutionary Heritage That Made a Worldwide Impact Returns to the National Stage Leading into America’s 250th

Emmy-Nominated PBS Travel Host & Author Connects the Turning Point of the Revolution to America’s 250th Birthday with Revolutionary Road Trip. Darley Newman and Saratoga 250 leaders available for advance interviews on Saratoga’s pivotal role, heritage tourism, and the upcoming national book launch event being held at Universal Preservation Hall in Saratoga on June 30.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. — As the nation prepares to celebrate America’s 250th birthday on July 4, Saratoga offers a critical and compelling angle to the story of the nation’s founding: the Battles of Saratoga, the military turning point that secured America’s founding freedom and continues to draw visitors today.

To help tell that story, Emmy Award-nominated PBS travel host, writer, and author Darley Newman will return to Saratoga for a national book launch event celebrating Saratoga’s Revolutionary heritage and America’s upcoming 250th birthday. The event will feature the release of Revolutionary Road Trip: Hidden Stories from America’s Founding Journey and an exclusive screening focused on Saratoga’s role in the American Revolution.

The timing connects Saratoga’s world-changing Revolutionary heritage and ongoing hospitality appeal to the upcoming July 4 and America 250 news cycles. The Battles of Saratoga were a multi-week campaign encompassing two distinct battles, a siege, and the first-ever surrender of a full British field army. The story also presents a timely opportunity to report on how accessible and affordable heritage tourism can be, showcasing low-cost public events that blend history with contemporary travel, including dynamic hospitality and entertainment destinations.

The June 30 event will additionally offer a preview of the major Battles of Saratoga 250th commemorative events planned for 2027.
