(May 21, 2026) – Below is a statement from Center for Economic Growth President and CEO Mark Eagan on IBM’s announcement for plans to develop a quantum foundry in Albany:

Employment in the Capital Region’s tech R&D industry reached a new record high in 2025, and IBM’s investment in this quantum fab in Albany will take those job levels to new heights. From Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute hosting the world’s first-ever IBM quantum computer on a university campus to NORDTECH’s mission of advancing quantum technologies for defense systems to GlobalFoundries’ manufacturing of chips for quantum computing architecture at its Malta fab – this is where quantum gains momentum. We are deeply grateful for IBM’s longstanding commitment to the Capital Region and for New York State’s and Senator Schumer’s unwavering support for this industry.
